House update: fighting fires

I got back to my office this morning after a seminar to find my voice-mail light flashing. It was Pam.

"Andy, we've got a problem and I need your help. I've just discovered that the solid-surface countertop color you picked out has been discontinued. We've got to figure something out quickly and get it ordered so that this doesn't delay construction. I need you to go to ${other neighborhood}'s sales office and pick out a color. If there's nothing there you like, there's this place up on Edith near Paseo called American Cabinet, they could probably help you..."

Lovely. Just how I needed to spend my afternoon.

We went to ${other_neighborhood} and looked at the other countertop colors. There was nothing we liked. We drove all the way across town to the place just south of Paseo. They had plenty of stuff we liked, so we picked out our favorite plus a couple of backup options. We were told that we didn't have to restrict ourselves to the usual brand name Centex stocks, so we didn't. Hopefully this particular mess is now laid to rest, or at least is now someone else's problem.

Set 'em up, knock 'em down...
