double-twist

Death March Part 2, day 2 of 18

I came back to work yesterday after a badly-overdue 3-week vacation. I think it would probably need to be at least 4 or 5 weeks for me to really be back at full capacity. The slightly scary part is that I have more than enough leave still queued up to do that.

Anyway. Phase 1 of the project is presently out of my hands. I wrote the back end and the interfaces: another group is doing the front end. That part is scheduled to go live to 4000 users (!) on March 14.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, I am responsible for getting phase 2 ready for beta release by March 18. This is probably achievable given 50- to 65-hour weeks between now and the release date if I'm working alone; 45- to 55-hour weeks if I can get some help. I will almost certainly be picking up another 30 or 40 hours of flex time...

Given a minimal estimate of how much overtime this will take, I will have three more weeks of leave that I absolutely must take by the end of September. If I don't, I lose the time, which is unacceptable after what I did to earn it.

Yesterday was mostly lost to spinning back up, handling an overflowing inbox, and sketching out the stuff I need to do between Now and Then. Today will probably be mostly infrastructure work: not flashy but quite necessary.

Wish me luck...
