Dark comedy [Jan. 13th, 2005|08:46 am]
[Current Mood |bemused]

There are some things I just have to laugh at because the alternative is to burst into tears. I just heard from the investigator who interviewed me for my clearance around October 2003. Now, at the end of November I got an interim clearance that gets me most of what I need, but the show's not over yet. I'm waiting on a different one. She said that the reason why it hasn't gone all the way through yet is that they need me to sign a medical release form so that they can talk to doctors in North Carolina.

"Wait, I already signed one of those when I talked to you."

"Yes, but, well, it's only good for a year and it's expired..."

The sympathy meter is reading zero, Captain.

That's pretty bad. It's also bad when agencies won't (or can't) talk to each other about these things. A friend of mine is going to be teaching soon, and although he just had a police background check for something else, the school authorities won't accept it...they have to do one of their own. A complete one, too, not just a did-you-get-into-trouble-last year job.
