I have discovered that the Dragon (the very first boss) drops 5000 gold and is soloable by any of our characters. I intend to get them all to full health for the very first time in their ENTIRE LIVES HAHAHAHAHA.
Yes, it will be eight months before we can take advantage of it, but you may begin sharpening your swords now.
The main disk for spundreams.net crashed last night. We have backups of everything so we won't lose any data but it's safe to expect a day or two of downtime.
We were in the middle of a server migration anyway. When the system comes back up we'll be using Gmail to host email service. You will not lose any of your mail and you'll still be able to access it the way you were before but you will have to get a temporary password from me for the first time you log in.
If I'm not already in touch with you about this, please write to me at andy dot origami at gmail dot com and tell me what the best way is to contact you.
I'm at a workshop in a hotel that's set up chiefly as a conference center. They provide refreshments, snacks, and all meals, presumably at some exorbitant cost.
There are about 8 varieties of cold drinks available during the day. All but 2 are some variant on water+sugar+coloring. Most of the breakfast foods are pastries and sugary cereals. All of the snacks are things like ice cream bars (mmm), potato chips, cookies, popcorn and miniature candy bars. Well, almost all -- there are a few granola bars. There are a couple of trail mixes... made mostly of chocolate, nuts, and dried candied fruit. Lunch is heavy on X-in-sauce, starches and fried stuff. The dessert table is itself as big as the buffet line containing the entrees.
I find that I resent it when my only realistic options for eating well are either to go way out of my way or to skip food entirely.
At the next break I intend to go up to the front desk and raid the bowl of apples. That may be my only hope.
For the first time since I've been into graphics, I find myself thinking of not going to SIGGRAPH.
How on earth can this be?
I did not sleep well last night. One's entire body itching will do that. Luckily, the surgeon who worked on me happens to be the doctor on call today, so when I called I didn't have to spend too much time explaining.
His hypothesis is that this is just coincidence. The hydrocodone caused so much histamine to be dumped into my body that I'm reacting to stuff that I normally wouldn't even notice. Apparently ibuprofen can interact with this somehow, so I'm off that, too. I'll substitute tylenol as a painkiller, benadryl for the rash, and hydrocortisone for topical matters. I also have the standard instructions to watch out for anaphylactic shock, which I knew about already, but the reminder never hurts.
So today I'm going to be doped to the gills on benadryl. I've found an HD broadcast of the Indy 500. It looks really nice. Maybe Danica Patrick will win this year. Maybe Marco Andretti. Maybe somebody else entirely.
I remember the mini-controversry over the words that would start the race when the first woman drove in the field. That seems so silly now. "Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines!" works just fine.
